A planter is an agricultural machine designed for accurate and efficient seed planting in prepared farmland. It is used to place seeds into the soil at the correct depth, spacing, and row alignment to promote uniform crop growth and improve productivity. The planter is built with strong metal frames, seed hoppers, furrow openers, covering devices, and press wheels that ensure proper seed placement and soil coverage. It is suitable for planting crops such as maize, beans, soybeans, groundnuts, and other grains.
Operation
The planter operates by being attached to a tractor or walking tractor which provides the pulling power during field operation. As the machine moves forward, the furrow openers create planting lines in the soil while the seed metering system releases seeds at controlled intervals from the hopper into the furrows. The covering mechanism then covers the seeds with soil, and the press wheels help firm the soil for better seed-to-soil contact. This process increases planting accuracy, reduces seed wastage, saves labor.
