A reaper works by using sharp blades that move rapidly to cut crop stems close to the ground. The cut crops are then guided onto a conveyor or collecting platform. Some advanced reapers may also include binding or row-forming mechanisms, which arrange the cut crops neatly for easier collection and threshing. It is commonly used in medium to large-scale farms where manual harvesting would be too slow or costly.

Operation

To operate a reaper, the machine is positioned at the beginning of a crop row and started using its engine or tractor power. As it moves forward, the cutting blades slice through the crop stems at a uniform height. The cut crops are continuously guided into a collection area or left in windrows (neatly arranged rows) on the field. The operator controls the speed and direction to ensure even cutting and minimal crop loss. After harvesting, the cut crops are collected for threshing and further processing.
