A Steam Box (for cooking) is a kitchen or industrial cooking appliance that uses hot steam to cook food in an enclosed chamber. It is commonly used for preparing foods like rice, vegetables, fish, meat, and dumplings while preserving nutrients and moisture. The unit typically includes a sealed cooking chamber, a water tank or steam generator, heating elements (electric, gas, or steam-fed), food trays or racks, a control panel, and a drainage system. The chamber is insulated to maintain consistent temperature and prevent heat loss.
In operation, water is filled into the tank or boiler, and food is placed on trays inside the chamber. When the machine is turned on, the heating system raises the water temperature until it produces steam. The steam flows into the cooking chamber and circulates around the food, transferring heat evenly through moisture. This method cooks food gently without direct flame, reducing the risk of burning and helping retain natural flavor, color, and nutrients. The temperature and cooking time are set and controlled to suit different foods. Excess steam is released through vents, and condensed water is drained away. Once the cooking cycle is complete, the machine is switched off and the food is removed, fully cooked and ready for use.
