A pipe bender is a machine or tool used to bend pipes and tubes into desired angles or curves without collapsing or damaging the material. It is commonly used in plumbing, construction, automotive work, and metal fabrication. The main components typically include a bending die (former), clamp or holding mechanism, pressure roller, and a lever, hydraulic system, or electric motor depending on the type (manual, hydraulic, or electric pipe bender). The die supports the pipe and determines the bending radius, ensuring the pipe maintains its shape during the process.
In operation, the pipe is placed between the bending die and clamp, then secured firmly. Force is applied—either manually through a lever or automatically through hydraulic or electric power—to press the pipe against the die. As pressure increases, the pipe gradually bends to match the shape of the die, forming the required angle or curve. The operator monitors the bending angle and releases the pipe once the desired shape is achieved. Pipe benders are valued for producing smooth, accurate bends without kinks, making them essential for creating strong and properly aligned piping systems.
