A fall arrester is a personal protective safety device used in height-related work to prevent or stop a worker from falling. It is commonly used in construction, tower maintenance, roofing, and industrial climbing activities. The device forms part of a fall arrest system and typically consists of a durable housing, a locking mechanism (such as a braking or cam system), and a lifeline or retractable lanyard made of steel cable or high-strength synthetic fiber. In the event of a sudden fall, the internal mechanism automatically locks to absorb and arrest the fall force, reducing injury risk. It is manufactured from high-strength steel, aluminum alloy, and impact-resistant materials to ensure reliability under extreme load conditions.
Operation:
To operate a fall arrester, it is first securely attached to a fixed anchor point above the user and connected to a full-body safety harness. The lifeline is allowed to extend and retract freely as the user moves normally. In the event of a sudden downward movement (fall), the internal locking mechanism immediately engages, stopping the fall within a short distance. After use or after a fall event, the device must be inspected for damage and re-certified or replaced if necessary. It should always be used in accordance with safety regulations, ensuring proper anchoring, correct harness fitting, and regular inspection before each use.
