A road cutting machine (also called a road saw or concrete cutter) is a construction machine used to cut hard surfaces such as asphalt, concrete roads, pavements, and slabs. It is equipped with a diamond-tipped circular blade mounted on a rotating shaft, a water cooling system, a motor (petrol, diesel, or electric), and a wheeled frame for movement. It is commonly used in road repair, pipeline installation, expansion joints, and demolition works.
Operation
When the machine is started, the engine rotates the cutting blade at high speed. The operator positions the machine on the marked cutting line and gradually lowers the blade onto the road surface using a depth control lever. As the blade rotates, it grinds and cuts through the hard material. Water is often supplied to the blade to reduce heat, minimize dust, and improve cutting efficiency. The operator slowly pushes the machine forward along the marked path until the required cut depth and length are achieved. After cutting, the blade is raised and the machine is switched off.
