Stretch film is a highly elastic plastic wrapping material primarily manufactured from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). It is designed to tightly secure and stabilize products during storage, handling, and transportation by stretching around the load and contracting to provide a firm, protective hold. Stretch film is available in various thicknesses, widths, and grades, including hand stretch film and machine stretch film, with options for clear, colored, UV-resistant, and puncture-resistant varieties. It offers excellent load retention, tear resistance, and protection against dust, dirt, moisture, and minor physical damage, making it widely used in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, logistics, and distribution centers for palletized goods and packaged products.

Operation

Before wrapping, the items are arranged securely on a pallet or prepared as a stable load. The stretch film is anchored to the base of the load and stretched either manually using a hand dispenser or automatically with a stretch wrapping machine. As the film is wrapped around the load in overlapping layers, its elastic properties create tension that tightly binds the products together, preventing movement during handling and transportation. Additional wraps are applied around the top and bottom of the load to improve stability and protection. Once wrapping is complete, the film is cut and the end is pressed firmly against the wrapped surface to secure it. The wrapped load remains protected from dust, moisture, and shifting until the film is removed by cutting or unwrapping it at the destination. Proper storage of stretch film in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight helps preserve its elasticity and performance.
