A straight grinder (also known as a die grinder) is a handheld power tool used for grinding, polishing, cutting, and shaping materials such as metal, wood, and plastic. It is commonly used in workshops, garages, and construction sites. The tool has a slim, straight body with a high-speed motor, a collet (to hold different attachments), and a rotating spindle. Various accessories like grinding stones, polishing wheels, and cutting bits can be attached, making it a versatile machine for detailed and precision work.
In operation, the desired attachment is securely fixed into the collet, and the machine is switched on. The motor rotates the attachment at very high speed. The operator then guides the spinning tool onto the work surface to grind, smooth, or shape the material as needed. The straight design allows easy access to tight or hard-to-reach areas. The tool is controlled by hand, and the pressure applied determines the level of material removal. After use, the machine is switched off and allowed to stop completely before changing attachments or storing.
