Technical Description: A Concrete Test Hammer Kit, commonly known as a Schmidt Rebound Hammer, is a non-destructive testing instrument used to assess the surface hardness and estimate the compressive strength of hardened concrete. The kit typically includes the rebound hammer, grinding stone, calibration anvil, carrying case, and instruction manual. The hammer consists of a spring-loaded mass that impacts a plunger pressed against the concrete surface; the rebound distance is measured and correlated to concrete strength. For contractors and asset owners, this provides a low-cost, rapid screening method compared with laboratory cube/crushing tests, helping prioritize repairs, acceptance testing, and maintenance planning while minimizing disruption.
Operation: To operate, the test surface is cleaned and smoothed if necessary, then the hammer is held perpendicular to the concrete surface and the plunger is pressed firmly until the spring-loaded mass impacts the concrete. The rebound value displayed on the scale is recorded, and multiple readings are taken at different points to obtain an average result. The average rebound number is then compared with the manufacturer’s correlation chart to estimate concrete compressive strength.
