A dumpy level is a surveying instrument used to measure horizontal levels and determine height differences between points on the ground. It consists of a telescope mounted on a stable base with leveling screws and a tripod stand, and is commonly used in construction and land surveying for accurate leveling work.
Operation:
A dumpy level works by being set up on a tripod and carefully leveled using adjustment screws. The operator then looks through the telescope and takes readings on a leveling staff placed at different points. By comparing these readings, the user can determine differences in elevation and ensure surfaces are level or at the required height.
