An electric circular saw is a handheld power tool used for making straight, fast, and accurate cuts in materials such as wood, plywood, plastic, and sometimes metal (with the correct blade). It is widely used in carpentry, construction, and furniture making. The machine consists of a high-speed motor, a circular toothed blade, a protective blade guard, a base plate (shoe) for guiding the cut, and handles for control. It can be corded (electric) or cordless (battery-powered).

In operation, the correct blade is fitted depending on the material to be cut, and the cutting depth is adjusted using the base plate setting. The saw is switched on, causing the blade to rotate at high speed. The operator places the base plate firmly on the material and slowly pushes the saw forward along the marked cutting line. The blade guard automatically lifts during cutting and covers the blade when not in use for safety. Steady movement is important to ensure a clean and accurate cut. After finishing the cut, the trigger is released, and the blade stops before the tool is lifted away.
