A high-voltage electronic fence is a perimeter security system that deters and detects unauthorized access by transmitting short, high-voltage, low-current electrical pulses through tensioned fence wires. It comprises an energizer, high-tensile wires, insulated posts, tensioners, earth rods, lightning protection, warning signs, and a monitoring/control unit. The energizer converts mains or battery power into controlled pulses, typically 5,000–10,000 volts, providing an effective but non-lethal deterrent. The system can also detect wire cutting, short-circuiting, or tampering and integrates with CCTV, alarms, access control, and remote monitoring systems.
Operation:
The energizer continuously sends high-voltage pulses through the fence wires while the monitoring unit supervises the circuit’s integrity. Contact with the energized wire delivers a brief, non-lethal electric shock to deter intrusion, while any cutting, climbing, or short-circuiting immediately triggers an alarm for security response. The system operates continuously with battery backup during power outages, and regular inspection of the wires, grounding, insulation, and energizer ensures safe, reliable performance.
