Description:
A contactor is an electrically controlled switching device used to turn an electrical circuit on and off, especially in high-power applications such as motors, lighting systems, and industrial equipment. It is designed to handle larger currents than standard switches and is commonly used in control panels and automation systems. A contactor consists of a coil (electromagnet), movable and fixed contacts, and an enclosure that provides protection and insulation.

Operation:
The contactor operates using electromagnetic action. When an electrical current flows through the coil, it creates a magnetic field that pulls the movable contacts toward the fixed contacts, closing the circuit and allowing current to pass to the connected load, such as a motor. When the coil is de-energized, the magnetic field collapses, and a spring mechanism pushes the contacts apart, opening the circuit and stopping the flow of current. This allows the contactor to safely and efficiently control high-power devices using a low-power control signal.
