A compactor machine is a construction equipment used to compress soil, gravel, asphalt, or waste materials to increase density and stability. It is commonly used in road construction, building foundations, landscaping, and waste management. The main types include plate compactors, rammer compactors (jumping jacks), and roller compactors. Key components typically include a heavy base plate or drum, an engine (petrol, diesel, or electric), a vibration mechanism, and a control handle or operator cabin. The vibration system generates rapid, repeated forces that help remove air gaps between particles, making the material more compact and solid.

In operation, the machine is started and positioned over the material to be compacted. The engine drives the vibration mechanism, causing the base plate or drum to vibrate at high frequency. As the operator guides the machine across the surface, the combination of weight and vibration forces the particles closer together, increasing density and strength. For larger roller compactors, the machine is driven over the surface in multiple passes until the desired compaction level is achieved.
