Impact Rammer – Description
An impact rammer, also known as a tamping rammer or jumping jack compactor, is a construction machine used to compact soil in confined or narrow areas such as trenches, foundations, and pipe works. It has a small engine mounted on top, a spring system, and a narrow foot (shoe) at the bottom that delivers strong vertical impacts to the ground. It is designed to provide deep compaction, especially in cohesive soils like clay.

Operation
When the engine is started, it drives a piston inside the machine that moves up and down rapidly. This motion is transferred to the foot through a spring mechanism, causing the rammer to “jump” repeatedly on the ground. Each impact force pushes soil particles tightly together, removing air spaces and increasing soil density. The operator guides the machine slowly across the working area, allowing repeated impacts until the soil becomes firm, stable, and well-compacted.
