An electric hammer (also known as a rotary hammer or hammer drill) is a powerful tool used for drilling and breaking hard materials such as concrete, stone, and brick. It is commonly used in construction, renovation, and masonry work. The machine consists of a strong electric motor, a hammering mechanism, a chuck (usually SDS type) for holding drill bits or chisels, a handle for firm grip, and control switches for selecting different modes such as drilling, hammer drilling, or chiseling.

In operation, the appropriate bit or chisel is inserted into the chuck and locked securely. When the machine is switched on, the motor rotates the bit while also producing a rapid hammering (forward and backward удар) action. This combined motion allows the tool to break and drill through hard surfaces more easily than a normal drill. The operator applies steady pressure while guiding the tool on the work surface. For chiseling, the rotation is stopped, and only the hammering action is used to break or remove material. After completing the task, the machine is switched off and allowed to stop before setting it aside.
